FINALS RECAP: TREES TAKE THE TITLE!

The inaugural Avery Dennison Toffee League campaign ended with Evergreen FC showered in champagne, hoisting the Toffee Trophy on the hallowed turf of Buckman Field.

After barely sneaking into the playoffs thanks to a solid goal differential, Evergreen managed to hook the previously-undefeated Fish & Chips FC in the semi-finals, battering the regular-season champions by a score of 5-2. A Cinderella story was well and truly in motion.

On the other side of the bracket, Industry Futbol Club and Portland Netrippers FC remained deadlocked at 2-2 through a nervy extra-time period, giving way to an even nervier penalty shootout. In the end, Industry kept their heads cooler than cool (ice cold!), reaching the final with 3 successful spot kicks compared to their opponents' single tally.

The final game of the season would thus be a rematch of the first matchday of the campaign. Industry had easily dispatched of Evergreen in Week 1, defeating the Happy Little Trees by a score of 7-0. It was a brutal and humbling shutout—one that stuck in the craw of the Evergreen faithful and became bulletin board material all season long for players and fans alike.

But, on this day, it was to be different. On the back of clinical finishing and a steady rearguard, Evergreen made up for early-season struggles with a 5-2 victory—a testament to the squad's resilience and shrewd activity in the transfer market, which aptly addressed early-season issues.

So ended the first season of the inaugural Avery Dennison Toffee League. We'd like to thank our fans, sponsors, and competing teams, and look forward to seeing you again next year for Season Two.
